POSITION: Legal Advocate
FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Community Services Manager, and within the scope of the agency’s goals and objectives The Legal Advocate provides support, information, advocacy, and court accompaniment to victims of domestic/sexual abuse, including assistance with protection orders, civil and criminal hearings, and legal referrals. The Legal Advocate is not a lawyer and does not give legal advice.
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS: BA Degree or combination of education and experience in a legal or domestic violence setting. Experience in preparation of restraining orders, victim services and the criminal justice system. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer literacy required. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships. Familiarity with legal issues facing immigrant women experiencing domestic violence.
