Meet Yaya, a House of Ruth volunteer and DV survivor that is giving hope and courage to others.

“I am a survivor of domestic abuse. I had cigarettes put on my arms, fractured jaw, black eyes. I stayed because I didn't think I could make it on my own with three children to care for. I had no high diploma, no skills.

Then he enlisted in the Air Force and for 2 months I was on my own, and I did it. Realizing I could do this by myself I was able to leave. That was 45 years ago.

I have helped some people leave, gave courage where I could and continue to fight for the ladies whenever possible. Not to mention that Ruth is my favorite book of the Bible. I got out, but a lot didn't so I just want to make a difference where I can.” ... See MoreSee Less

House of Ruth provides free counseling for children 4 - 18 years old in a safe and confidential environment.

Child abuse can happen inside and outside of the home and includes bullying and exposure to violence.

Exposure to violence and abuse can contribute to your child / teen expressing behavioral and emotional problems such as:
- Depression
- Low self esteem
- Poor impulse control
- Fear
- Anger / aggression
- Defiance
- Withdrawal / isolation
- Anxiety
- Nightmares
- Self-harming behaviors; cutting and substance abuse
